WASILLA — A scary-sounding fire in the Wasilla-Fishhook Road area was knocked down and contained Friday morning.
According to the Mat-Su Borough’s Deputy Director of Emergency Services Clint Vardeman, the fire on East Woodruff Loop was called in at 7:51 a.m.
“It was called in as a 20-foot fire burning behind a mobile home but then it was changed to a ‘no all-clear,’ a mobile home was burning, explosions,” Vardeman said.
In borough firefighting parlance, “all-clear” describes a fire in which it’s been confirmed that no one is trapped inside.
Later, the fire was spreading, possibly into another mobile home and definitely into the woods.
“There were vehicles that were catching fire and propane tanks that were exposed,” Vardeman said.
But, by 8:50 a.m. firefighters had knocked it down, according to emergency band traffic. The fire was surrounded and they had confirmed nobody was inside the mobile home.
