Firefighters to burn donated house

WASILLA — Old Matanuska Road will be closed Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for a realistic firefighting exercise.

The Central Mat-Su Fire Department will provide their firefighters with the hands-on experience of putting out a house fire that will be lit in a donated house on Old Matanuska Road. No through traffic will be permitted between Danny’s Avenue and Mickey Avenue on the day of the exercise, but local residents will have access to their homes. Passersby should not be alarmed upon seeing black smoke and flames in the area.

The training is arranged to meet standards set by the National Fire Protection Association and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.

For more information call Training Officer John Beebe at 861-8043.
