PALMER — The Colony Knights has planned on opening the prep soccer season in the last week. But a snowfall over spring break delayed the start of the season.
After rescheduling boys and girls games against Dimond early last week, with hope of playing West Anchorage and South Anchorage over the weekend, the Knights are now waiting until Wednesday to hit the pitch in an official match.
“We couldn’t get it cleared. The weather has not cooperated,” Johnson said Monday evening.
Johnson said the Knights finally finished clearing the field Saturday. Colony is now slated to open its season Wednesday against East Anchorage. The boys play at 5 p.m. and the girls at 7. Thursday, East Anchorage is at Colony, with the girls playing at 5 and the boys at 7 p.m.
Johnson said the Knights were able to reschedule boys varsity games against Dimond, West and South, and girls games against Dimond and South.
Teams at Palmer and Wasilla also spent time clearing snow off their turf late last week. The Wasilla girls were scheduled to play at Bartlett on Tuesday, but that game was postponed until April 11, Wasilla girls head coach Patrick O’Neill said.. The Wasilla boys are scheduled to open their season Thursday, hosting South Anchorage at 5 p.m., but the majority of the turf at Veteran’s Memorial Field is still covered in snow.
Palmer, Houston and Redington are slated to open their seasons in April.
