First round: Colony girls 68, Homer girls 34 Final

PALMER — The Colony girls doubled-up the Homer Mariners in first-round action at the Northern Lights Conference Championships at Palmer High School, cruising into the second round with a 68-34 win.

Colony, the No. 2 seed from the North Division, led 16-6 after the first eight minutes of the game, held a 34-18 edge at the half and opened the third quarter on a 17-0 run.

Kara Larson and Maria Bowker each had 12 points for the Knights, while Hayley Hotchkiss had 11 and Allie Grazulis added 10.

Piper Daugherty had nine points to lead the Mariners.

Colony will play Soldotna at 3 p.m. Friday with a berth in the state tournament on the line.
