PALMER — The first round of the Alaska Schools Activities Association state football playoffs is set, and a pair of Palmer area teams will be taking the field on Friday night.
Colony, the No. 2 seed from the Railbelt Conference will host Bartlett, the third seed from the Cook Inlet 7 p.m. at Colony High School.
Palmer, the third seed from the Railbelt, will make the trip into Anchorage to play second-seeded South at 7 p.m. at Anchorage Football Stadium.
The other two 4A quarterfinals will pit North Pole against West Anchorage, Saturday at 3 p.m. at AFS. In the final large-schools game of the weekend, Chugiak will face Juneau-Douglas in Juneau, Saturday at 8 p.m.
While Colony clinched its playoff three weeks ago, the Moose punched its postseason ticket with a 48-7 win in the annual Potato Bowl last Friday at Veterans Memorial Field in Wasilla.
The winner of each quarterfinal game will move into the large-school state semifinals, slated for Oct. 9-10 at AFS.
The winner of the Bartlett-Colony game will face the winner of the West-North Pole game, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at AFS.
The winner of the Palmer-South match will face the winner of the Juneau-Chugiak game on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. at AFS.
Other games
In small-schools action, three-time defending state champion Soldotna will host Monroe Saturday at noon. Barrow is at Kenai, Saturday at noon.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, Eielson will host Kodiak and Homer will be at Nikiski.
