WASILLA — It was thought to be a lost season for king salmon fishing for much of the Mat-Su. But local anglers received some good news Tuesday morning. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is opening the Little Susitna River to king salmon fishing as of Wednesday at 6 a.m.
“This year’s run has taken an unexpected turn, but pleasant turn for the better, with a jump in counts over this past weekend,” area management biologist Sam Ivey said in a press released issued Tuesday. “With the goal achieved we can relax restrictions on the Little Su and provide another opportunity for anglers to go catch a king salmon.”
Fishing for kings will be allowed from Wednesday at 6 a.m. until July 13 at 11 p.m. from the mouth of the Little Su upstream to the Parks Highway bridge. There is a bag and possession limit of one per day and one in possession, 20 inches or more, according to the department.
