WASILLA — A city police dog literally treed a fleeing suspect wanted on multiple warrants Monday.
According to a press release from Alaska State Troopers, at 5:34 p.m. officers spotted Jason Rose, 38, of Wasilla, driving a blue Jeep Cherokee near Trunk Road and Palmer-Wasilla Highway.
Troopers say they knew Rose had multiple warrants out for his arrest. They tried to pull him over but, according to their press release, he ran, hitting more than 80 mph on Bogard Road.
“Rose continued to an address on Tait Drive where he abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot,” according to the press release.
Troopers called in a Wasilla Police Department tracking dog named Marshal.
“After a short track, Rose was discovered halfway up a cottonwood tree in nearby woods,” troopers report.
His warrants carried original charges of failure to stop for a peace officer, vehicle theft, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license and weapons misconduct. Troopers tacked on new charges of failure to stop for a peace officer and driving on a revoked license. He was jailed on $25,000 bail at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility. As of Tuesday afternoon he was still there.
