Fletchers say thanks for years of patronage

And even the mighty will fall …

For the past two years Scott and Jill Crinklaw, Amy and Jyllian Neuharth, Colleen Peterson and Judy Vanderwilt have tried to keep the economy cancer at bay. However, after a courageous battle, they, too, have lost the fight. Fletchers Archery will close its doors July 31.

Fletchers Archery has been a long-standing icon for the archery community. Spanning more than 20 years, Barb and Jerry Fletcher first opened the shop giving archers a place to shoot, purchase new archery products and meet fellow people with the same tastes and goals for the hunting community. When Jerry “left the building” in the spring of 2006, many people were leery of the young guy taking over.

Many times in the first few months you would hear, “That’s not how Barb and Jerry would do it.” However, Scott knew what he was doing and with a little enthusiasm and a lot of harassment he would either fix the bow or the shooter.

While Scott and Jill owned the shop many things changed.

They came out of the Stone Age and started using computers, a women’s league was started, and toys were brought in so dads and moms could bring their kids in to play while they would shoot, making it a more family-oriented sport.

More times then not, it was the kids, not the adults, who bellied up to the bar eating a cookie from “Cookie Thursday,” talking to Mr. Scott about their many hunting adventures in Africa or up the Haul Road.

Fletchers had become a family, where each person that came in was treated like a distant relative coming home. For that we would like to thank you for being our counselor, our teacher, our guide, our strength and most importantly we would like to thank you, our customers, for just being there.
