Flintlock adds charge for fleeing felon

WASILLA — Perhaps he was defending himself against piracy or maybe he intended to rob a stagecoach. Whatever his intent, the flintlock pistol found in 42-year-old Lance Skarbo’s car Saturday netted him a charge as a felon in possession of a concealable weapon.

Alaska State Troopers first tried to pull Skarbo over at 1:42 a.m. at Tait Drive and Citrine Drive for an equipment violation. He was driving a 1996 Ford Mustang.

“The Ford failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued. The Ford lost control and went into the ditch at the end of Citrine Drive at Terrell Drive as it failed to negotiate a right hand turn,” according to an AST report.

Troopers say the driver, later identified as Skarbo, got out and ran toward Seward Meridian Parkway, but he was quickly apprehended. The loaded flintlock was later found in the Mustang.

“Troopers also located two grams of heroin along with methamphetamine and marijuana in the Ford.

Skarbo was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $5,000 bail and will need to find someone to look after him before he can be released. Jail records Monday afternoon showed he was still there.
