Flood advisory for portions of Mat-Su through 10 p.m., Friday

MAT-SU — Continued rain promoted the National Weather Service in Anchorage Thursday afternoon to issue a flood advisory through 10 p.m., Friday for portions of the Matanuska and Susitna valleys, including the Butte, Houston, Lazy Mountain, Meadow Lakes, Palmer and Wasilla.

Rain has saturated the ground and the NWS says continuing heavy rains could cause water to rise rapidly, especially in smaller streams.

The advisory urges residents who live near small streams to monitor the situation and use caution when driving on water-covered roads. The weather service says drivers should turn around if they encounter more than six inches of flowing water on the road.
