A flood watch has been changed to a flood advisory as heavy rain continued to blanket the Mat-Su Monday. The advisory, issued by the U.S. National Weather Service, is in effect until Tuesday morning and warns of minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
The Mat-Su Borough issued a report of a road closure Monday evening. Burrow Street, near Willow Creek, was closed at Willow Fishhook Road due to water overflowing on the road. That also closed access to River Aire Drive. Moose Meadows Road was also closed at the Little Susitna River.
As of Monday night, the borough was also monitoring Michelle Drive and Deneki Road in the Willow Creek area, Edgerton Parkway and North Sushana Drive.
The borough also issued a public safety message Monday regarding the rainfall and potential flooding, urging those in flood zones and other low-laying areas to monitor water conditions closely and be aware of rising water levels.
The borough also warned those planning on camping and recreating near local streams or rivers to be aware that water levels can change rapidly.
