Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Floyd Clarkston, 77, died peacefully at his home on June 28, 2004. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the home of Becky Clarkston for a celebration of his life at 500 S. Begich Ave. on Saturday, at 2 p.m.
Mr. Clarkston was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Londonderry, Ohio, and moved to Anchorage in 1957. He was employed by the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. in Anchorage since 1962 and retired in 1987 as warehouse manager after 25 years of service. Mr. Clarkston was a Navy veteran who served in World War II.
His interests included woodworking, creating string art pictures, his 1970 Chevy pickup and his family.
His family said, "He and his lovely wife, Becky, enjoyed 57 years of a close and loving relationship. He was a wonderful and special father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a stranger to no one and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed playing 'friendly' poker games with friends and fellow workers. Anyone would know he led a happy and fulfilled life when you saw the twinkle in his eyes."
Mr. Clarkston is survived by his wife, Becky, (Bessie) Clarkston; son, Lonnie Clarkston, and his wife, Marcia, of Ohio; son, Rex Clarkston, and his wife, Doris ,of Washington; a daughter, Renee Daniels, and her husband, Billy, of Wasilla; grandchildren Stacey Daniels and wife, Robin; Karen Peltier and husband, Mike, Sharon Fritz and husband, David, all of Wasilla, and Derek, Justin, Brittany and Megan Clarkston, all of Washington; and eight great-grandchildren, Kristan, Dustin, Kamron, Kayla, Josh, Colton, Danielle and Hunter, all of Wasilla.
His father, Oakley Clarkston, mother, Lela Clarkston, sister, Mildred Hulka, and brother, Ray Clarkston, preceded Mr. Clarkston in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Mat-Su, 3051 E. Palmer-Wasilla Highway, Wasilla, AK 99654-7234.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
