FLOYD F. MARRS

Floyd F. Marrs, 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 20, 2004, at Colony Manor at Creekside Assisted Living Home near Palmer.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Old Elks Lodge, 209 W. Evergreen Ave., Palmer, with a reception to follow. A private graveside ceremony for the family will take place after the service.

Mr. Marrs was born April 29, 1912, in Tucumcari, N.M. He spent his childhood in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

Mr. Marrs started his truck-driving career in 1937 in California. In 1943, he helped with the construction of the Alaska Highway. He also worked as a truck driver in Saudi Arabia, the Marshall Islands and across the United States.

He married Kay Popilchak in 1944 and they had one daughter, Colleen. They came to Alaska in 1974 and settled in Palmer. Mr. Marrs delivered supplies to the North Slope via truck until his retirement in 1978. Mrs. Marrs passed away in 1982. Mr. Marrs and Wanda Wilson married in 1983.

Mr. Marrs was a Shriner and a member of the Moose, the Elks, the Grange and a lifetime member of the Masons. He was always ready to give a helping hand whenever it was needed.

Mr. Marrs is survived by his wife, Wanda Marrs, of Palmer; his daughter; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren of Washington. He is also survived by four stepchildren, 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren on his wife's side.

In lieu of flowers, people may send donations to their favorite charities.
