Following long weekend for both teams, Moose top Hawks

PALMER — On a night on which a pair of teams were skating in their fourth game in five nights, a pair of seniors came through for the Palmer Moose.

Palmer forward Taylor Foster factored into all four goals and goalie Cody Grogan stopped 32 shots to lead the Moose to a 4-1 nonconference win over Houston Monday night at the MTA Events Center in Palmer.

Foster bagged two goals and two assists in the win, and Grogan kept Houston scoreless until the 9:36 mark of the third. The game came on the heels of long road trips for both squads. Palmer was north over the weekend, finishing 2-1 during a three-game trek through the Interior. Palmer blasted Lathrop 9-2, blanked North Pole 4-0 and fell to West Valley 6-2. Houston spent its weekend south, competing in the End of the Road Tournament in Homer. The Hawks were also 2-1. Houston beat the hosts 5-4, fell to Kenai Central 5-3 and capped the weekend with a 7-4 win over Bartlett.

Monday, Chase Rosenberg and Jaron Ketterman also scored for Palmer.

Hayden Chivers tallied the lone goal for the Hawks.

Moose, Knights win in Fairbanks

Garrett Ropka used a hat trick to lead the Palmer Moose to a 9-2 nonconference win over the Lathrop Malemutes Friday in Fairbanks.

Taylor Foster scored twice for the Moose, who won for the second straight day in the Interior. Noah Keil, Luke Theisen, Chase Rosenberg and Darian Wilson also scored for Palmer. Cale Winder made 18 saves for the Moose.

Thursday, Winder recorded a 22-save shutout to lead the Moose to a 4-0 win over North Pole.

Keil and Jadan Ketterman scored two goals each.

Colony also netted a 9-2 win on Friday, notching the seven-goal victory at North Pole.

Tristan Avoletta recorded the hat trick for the Knights. Jacob Kirsch and Cooper Smith tallied a pair of goals. Jake Hessinger and Bryce Crosta also scored.

Thursday, West Valley scored to a 3-1 win over the Knights. Smith scored Colony’s lone goal, a shorthanded tally.

Warriors top West Anchorage

Wasilla scored a 5-2 victory over West Anchorage Thursday at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla.

Russell Harren and Alex Engan each scored twice in the victory.

Sean Carney made 18 saves for the Warriors.

Houston beats host in tourney

Houston opened the End of the Road Tournament in Homer with a 5-4 win over the host Mariners Thursday.

Reed Humphreys scored the game-winner with 2:24 left in regulation.

Kai Kingery led Houston with two goals. Andrew Natekin and Yuriy Natekin also scored for Houston.
