To the editor:
Personally, I am sick to death of the word “change.” Something about a political candidate, like them or not, using it as a catch phrase for 22 months sets your teeth on edge whenever you hear the word. I don’t even like it when cashiers offer me change anymore.
Nevertheless, the Matanuska Electric Association election is upon us. If ever there was an outfit in need of change, it’s MEA. For years, the members were marginalized as the management ignored the board and us. See as proof the recent scandal over the general manager giving cars and gas cards to the 11 member management team on our dime and directly opposed to the stated directions of the board.
Last year we elected Peter Burchell and Janet Kincaid to help bring much-needed change. With the help of Lois Lester, Katie Hurley and Kit Jones, that’s exactly what they’ve done. We have more responsive management, fewer lawsuits and happier employees. And they took back the cars and gas cards, saving us thousands of dollars each year. More importantly, we are cooperating with other utilities and with the governor to plan real solutions for our long-term energy needs.
A big part of bringing about these changes was electing Lois Lester as president and appointing Kit Jones to a board vacancy last fall. Now both are up for re-election. Please show your support for positive change at MEA. Vote for Kit Jones and Lois Lester. And vote to keep Janet Kincaid on the MEA board. Vote NO on Prop 1.
