WASILLA - A pair of former Knights came up big in their old gym Tuesday night.
Senior Alyssa Hutchins scored a game-high25 points and senior Pherrari Brumbaugh knocked down a key jumper late to help the Wasilla Warriors edge the Colony Knights 45-43 at Colony High.
Hutchins, who played two years at CHS before transferring to Wasilla, sparked the Warriors in the first half, scoring 21 of her 25 points during the first two quarters. The UAA recruit hit four three-pointers during a 14-point first.
Brumbaugh had only one field goal in the game, but it came at a pivotal time. The senior, a three-year player at Colony before moving to Wasilla, hit a jump shot from the edge of the free-throw line to give the Warriors a 44-43 lead with 2 minutes and 5 seconds left in the game.
In boys action, Wasilla survived Colony's 24-point outburst in the first quarter, and scored a 69-50 win over the Knights. Wasilla held Colony to only seven points in the second quarter, and the rivals ran into halftime tied at 31.
Junior Eric Roberts knocked down a three-pointer on the opening possession of the third quarter for the Warriors, and Wasilla cruised through the third on a 21-5 run.
Roberts scored five of his 10 points in the third.
Senior Connor Devine led Wasilla with 20 points, nine rebounds and eight blocked shots. Devine was a rebound and two blocks short of his third straight triple double.
