Former Knights softball standout honored

WASILLA — Former Colony Knights multisport standout Mackenzie Everett recently received an honor at the collegiate level.

Everett, now pitching for the Coast Guard Academy’s women’s softball squad, was named the New England Women’s And Men’s Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on March 13 after going 3-1 during the first week of her team’s season. Everett, a 2015 graduate of Colony High School, has helped the Coast Guard Academy Bears jump to a 7-1 start. During Everett’s 3-1 stretch on the mound, she allowed only 11 hits and fanned seven while posting a 0.78 earned run average. She currently has a 2.25 ERA, with hitters batting only .194 against her.

Everett, a sophomore, flirted with a perfect game against Penn St.-New Kensington on March 8. She allowed only one hit.

Everett, a standout in both softball and volleyball during her time at Colony High School, has now appeared in 22 career games with the Bears, and has made 15 starts. As a freshman, Everett was 3-6 in 11 starts, with 26 strikeouts.
