Former Mat-Su resident disappointed in the school board

I've been living outside Alaska for three years now and I'm amazed at the news that doesn't make it outside the state. That massive earthquake in November of 2018 didn't reach to far outside the state, and I have to explain to my new found friends why we're in the process of recalling the governor.

But the news recently that the Matsu School Board banned five iconic books has made a national disgraces of my home town. It is shameful that such a thing was done in the first place, nonetheless that it was done without a chance for the public to object. Both my parents were teachers in that school district for years and it pains me to see this happen to our schools and to our students.

My education in the Matsu School District and my Degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage have carried me far, and it pains me to see these assaults on the education system of the state who's flag I have carried across the world in my travels. I hope only hope that you will hold the school board to account for this egregious action, and restore the good name of our home borough, and our beloved state.
