Former Palmer High assistant basketball coach faces indecent exposure charges

ANCHORAGE — A former Palmer High School boys’ basketball coach was arraigned in Anchorage earlier this month on two counts of indecent exposure.

Shane Southwick, 50, was arraigned in Anchorage District Court June 16 on two Class B misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure to someone over the age of 16.

According to a charging document filed June 16, Anchorage Police Department officers were contacted in early May by a 19-year-old woman who told the police a man had exposed his genitals and masturbated in front of her. The woman said the alleged incident occurred at a coffee shop near the Glenn Highway and Muldoon Road where she was employed.

Records state officers did not respond to the initial call. However, a customer at the shop contacted police a week later stating that the man, later identified as Southwick, had stopped at the stand again. The alleged victim told police the man was a regular.

The affidavit stated the woman was able to identify the man as Southwick by both his name and his license plate. Documents stated Southwick admitted being at the coffee shop but denied the allegations.

A July 24 pre-trial conference is scheduled.

Southwick, an assistant coach on the Palmer High boys’ basketball staff since 2012, is no longer with the program, according to Mat-Su Borough School District officials.
