Former PHS teacher arrested for sexual abuse of a minor

A man who taught part-time at Palmer High School in 2006-07 was arrested in Anchorage Sunday and charged with multiple felony counts of first- and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Christopher More, 29, was the choir teacher at West High School in the Anchorage School District. In the Anchorage district, More previously taught at Willowa Elementary and Romig Middle School. He was also active in an Anchorage church, according to a joint press release from Anchorage Police and the Anchorage School District.

Charges were filled after a victim came forward Christmas Eve alleging that she had had a sexual relationship with her West High School choral music teacher during 2009 and early 2010, the press release says. During the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that More had multiple sexual encounters with both the complainant and two other choral students, police say.

His bail was set at $200,000.

Anchorage Police detectives say they have reason to believe that More may have additional undiscovered victims and are asking anyone with information to contact Anchorage Police at 786-8900 or Det. Jade Baker at 786-8530.

In the Mat-Su Borough School District, spokesperson Catherine Esary said any past or present Palmer High students or parents who have concerns about More’s conduct while he was a district employee should contact the head of the district’s human resources office, Katie Gardner, at 746-9241. Students and parents may also report their concerns to Palmer High principal Wolfgang Winter at 746-8400.
