Foul play not suspected with man found dead downtown

WASILLA — Police say they have found no reason to suspect that a man found dead in relatively conspicuous part of downtown met with foul play.

According to Wasilla Police Chief Mike Hughes, the bustle of police activity Saturday night around the Kashim Inn — which sits just off the Parks Highway on Herning Avenue — centered around a 47-year-old man found dead in one of the rooms there.

“As far as the actual cause of death we’re waiting on the medical examiner’s office to give us the information on that,” Hughes said. “There was no indication that there was anything improper at the scene.”

He was cautious, however, to say police haven’t completely ruled out foul play.

“A lot of the direction for any kind of an investigation could change with the medical examiner’s ruling but just based on the initial response it doesn’t seem to be (foul play),” he said.
