The Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce’s annual Fourth of July Parade is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., starting near the Valley Performing Arts Center in downtown Wasilla. Deadline to enter the parade is at 3 p.m., today. This year’s theme is “Alaska, A Star Spangled Celebration.”
The city of Wasilla is sponsoring a free Mayor’s Picnic follows the parade at Iditapark, at the corner of Lucille Street and Nelson Avenue. The picnic also includes a Blue Star Banner presentation ceremony at the Armed Forces Honor Garden. The fireworks display is set for 11 p.m. at Iditapark. For more information, call 376-1299.
Mat-Su Borough Planning and Land Use Department reminds people that the personal use of fireworks is illegal, except in the city of Houston. Violators are subject to a $500 fine. For more information, contact the code compliance office at 745-9853.
