Wasilla Fourth of July fireworks display is tonight at 11 p.m.
Willow veterans are organizing a Fourth of July parade. Entries will meet at the Willow Trading Post at 11 a.m. and the parade begins at noon. For more information, contact George Wilkie at 354-7184.
A Freedom 4-Miler begins with signup at 9 a.m. at the Willow Community Center, approximately Mile 69, Parks Highway. Entry fee is $10 and kids under 12 are free. The kids’ race is 1-kilometer and begins at 10 a.m. and the 4-miler follows. The race-course is flat and on a gravel road and bike path. The Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce’s annual Fourth of July Parade is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., starting near the Valley Performing Arts Center in downtown Wasilla. Deadline to enter the parade is at 3 p.m., today. This year’s theme is “Alaska, A Star Spangled Celebration.”
The city of Wasilla is sponsoring a free Mayor’s Picnic following the parade at Iditapark, at the corner of Lucille Street and Nelson Avenue.

A Blue Star Banner presentation ceremony is at the Armed Forces Honor Garden at 3 p.m. Monday. Valley residents with family members in the active duty military should fill out a card at the registration table at the Mayor’s Picnic to participate in the Blue Star Banner ceremony. Wasilla Mayor Verne Rupright will formally present the banners to each soldier’s family. Bert Hall said the goal is to reach out to families who have not previously received a Blue Star Banner.
Wasilla Sunrise Rotary will raffle off $2,500 in fuel at any Crowley station during the Mayor’s Picnic July 4. The Gallons for Rotary Giving program is offering chances for $5 each. First prize is $2,500 in fuel, second prize is $500 and third prize is $300. Winning tickets will be drawn during the Mayor’s picnic.
American Legion Susitna Post No. 35, 4133 Tweed Court in Wasilla, invites the public to stop by during its open house from 1 to 6 p.m., Monday.
