Fourth of July fun in Wasilla kicks off with the annual parade beginning at 11 a.m. and will follow the same route as last year.
Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commercehead Lyn Carden said there are 85 entries in the 2014 parade with about 1,500 participants.
This year the Chamber picked Jane Soeten, Barbara Shew and Lois M. Wier to be Parade Grand Marshals.
Following the parade is the Mayor’s Picnic at the Iditapark Honor Garden in Wasilla off Nelson Road, next to Wonderland Park. Enjoy hot dogs grilled by the Sunrise Rotary Club, and kids’ activities, games and various vendors.
A highlight of the Mayor’s Picnic this year will be the live music performed by the Palmer band “Break Up” from 1 to 3 p.m.
Bring a blanket and find a spot on the grass in the Iditapark in Wasilla for the community fireworks display, set to begin at 11:45 p.m.
