Skwentna resident Frederick "Fred" Lee Wentworth, 62, died at Providence Alaska Medical Center on Feb. 8, 2004. He was born July 26, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Fred E. and Margaret G. (Bradley) Wentworth.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Bonnie, of Palmer; daughters and sons-in-law Marcia and Conrad of Hawaii, and Lisa and Roy of Palmer; sons Jim of Willow, Jerry of Craig, Bill and wife Deanna of Pennsylvania, and Rick and wife Kimber of Wasilla; grandchildren Nickolas, Kaitlyn, Harley, Christa and Luc; sisters Karen, Linda and Diane of California; and brother David of California. His parents, a brother and a grandson preceded him in death.
Mr. Wentworth worked in the auto body repair business in Ohio from 1959 through 1968. He moved to Washington state and continued in the business until 1976. In the spring of 1976 he moved to Alaska and became a commercial fisherman, along with working in the auto body repair business. He retired in 1982, spending his retirement in the Alaska Bush. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed football, cars, NASCAR racing, talk radio, boating, snowmachining and outdoors.
The family said, "Rusty enjoyed the wild outdoors and loved spending time with his six grandchildren. Competitive in nature and young at heart, Fred was willing to experience adventures at their fullest. There was a special place in his heart for his dog, King, and his son's dog, Beau. He will be sadly missed by his entire family and will forever be in their hearts."
Mr. Wentworth's body was cremated. His cremains will be scattered over his log cabin on his remote parcel. Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
