Freshmen were on display as the Wasilla Warriors earned a 2-1 girls soccer win over the Palmer Moose Thursday at Palmer High School.
Wasilla freshman Molly O’Neill found the upper right corner of the net with four minutes left to provide the game-winner for the Warriors. Palmer freshman goalkeeper Charlotte Marciales made an impressive 36 saves for the Moose.
Lainey Kroon also scored for Wasilla. Lila Pettit, another Palmer freshman, scored the goal for the Moose.
In boys action, Palmer and Wasilla played to a 3-3 tie. Elijah Von Gunten had a pair of goals for the Moose, and Bodie Miller also scored off a header.
The Colony boys earned a pair of nonconference wins over Anchorage opponents. Johnny Figgins scored twice during a 4-2 win over East Anchorage on Friday. Owen Dietz added a goal and an assist.
The Knights followed with a 3-1 victory over Service Saturday. Dietz scored two unanswered goals for CHS. He supplied the game-winner during the 76th minute, scoring off a long throw from Alex King. Dietz converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute.
Alex Simeck scored the game-tying goal, off a 50-yard dribbling display. Simeck beat three defenders en route to the goal.
The Colony girls split with the same opponents. Colony blanked East 10-0. Hannah Hoffman had four assists in the win.
Service edged the Colony girls 2-1. Calico McIntyre converted a penalty kick for CHS.
