WASILLA — Alaska State Troopers said two people were taken to the hospital after a two-car crash at the intersection of Wasilla-Fishhook Road and Seldon Road at around 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
According to trooper Jason Crockett, a gray Ford Focus made a left turn into oncoming traffic and was T-boned by a black extended cab GMC truck traveling through a green light. The pick-up sustained damage to its right front but was otherwise free from damage — the driver reported his airbag didn’t even deploy.
The Focus was another matter. The two-door sedan took major damage on its passenger side after coming to rest against a light pole. Emergency personnel needed to cut the top off the car to reach the two men inside, who Crockett said looked to be in their teens or early 20s.
Crockett said both men were taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. He said no citations had been issued but expected the driver of the focus would be cited for failure to avoid a collision.
“He was at fault,” he said.
Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
The accident caused lengthy delays at the busy intersection for about an hour while authorities sorted things out. By about 5 p.m. traffic was again flowing normally.
