WASILLA — Troopers say that far from accepting an unruly woman’s bribe, they slapped her with criminal counts for offering it.
According to an Alaska State Trooper press statement, at 12:32 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called to a disturbance off of Charley Drive.
While there, they talked to Karen Conine, 44, of Chugiak, who was, troopers say, causing the disturbance and refused to calm down despite their requests to do so.
“While arresting Conine for disorderly conduct she physically resisted arrest, attempted to bribe the (arresting) trooper in an effort to avoid arrest, and made repeated death threats against the trooper,” according to the press release.
Conine was charged with bribery, assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. She was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $10,000 bail. Jail records Monday afternoon showed she was still there.
Troopers kick in door
to find assault victim
WILLOW — When they went to investigate a domestic abuse call, troopers report they didn’t get a response at first because the woman who called was being pinned to the floor.
According to a press statement, troopers went out to Beluga Avenue Saturday after someone there called 911 and hung up. During a second call from the home, Anthony Willis could be heard yelling in the background.
Troopers knocked on the door, according to the press release, but didn’t get a response. So they kicked it in and the woman who made the calls came running out.
After piecing together what happened, troopers believe Willis hung up the phone while the woman was summoning help. When they got to the house he was apparently pinning her to the floor, but just as the door got kicked in she broke free.
Willis was charged with domestic violence assault and interfering with a domestic violence report. He was jailed without bail at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. Jail records Monday morning showed he was still there.
Snowmachiner faces
multiple charges
HOUSTON — A Houston man is being charged with assault and coercion after troopers say he forced a woman to ride on his snowmachine with him despite her multiple attempts to leave.
According to a trooper press statement, at 2:10 a.m. Sunday troopers stopped to make sure the snowmachiner, Joseph Stanistreet, 46, of Houston, and his passenger, a 31-year-old Anchorage woman, were OK.
Troopers say the pair had been driving along the Parks Highway near Cheri Lakes Drive when the woman, in an attempt to get away from Stanistreet, jumped off the back.
“Stanistreet assaulted the female and made her get back onto the snowmachine. The female jumped off the snowmachine again,” and that’s when troopers showed up.
Troopers charged Stanistreet with assault and coercion for forcing the woman onto his sled. He was also charged with marijuana possession and drunken driving. He was jailed without bail at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. Jail records Monday morning showed he was still there.
