WASILLA — Students evacuated the Mat-Su Career and Technical High School Friday after someone started a fire in a bathroom.
According to an Alaska State Troopers press statement, the fire alarm went off shortly after 11:30 a.m.
Troopers say school staff put out the fire, which caused “cosmetic and smoke damage.” No one was hurt. Troopers are seeking information about the fire. Anyone who knows something can call troopers at 745-2132 or, to remain anonymous, Mat-Su Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.
TALKEETNA — An Eagle River man was not hurt in a plane crash on a private airstrip.
According to Alaska State Troopers, officers were called to a private airstrip near Mile 92 Parks Highway at 5:44 p.m., March 5.
The plane in question was upside down when troopers arrived. They found the pilot, Charles Criss, 61, of Eagle River, uninjured at a nearby home. Troopers say they notified the National Transportation Safety Board.
PALMER — A Wasilla woman is in jail after troopers say she fired several shots into a ditch as she drove away from a domestic dispute.
According to an Alaska State Troopers press statement, Tamera Koerber, 27, was arrested following a dispute on Lexington Street shortly after 2:45 p.m., March 6.
“Koerber had broken a car window at the residence and fired several shots from a .45-caliber pistol into a ditch in front of the residence while driving away in her vehicle,” troopers report.
Koerber was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, charged with assault, weapons misconduct and criminal mischief. Jail records Monday morning showed she had since posted bail.
WASILLA — Mat-Su Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons who broke into a local pharmacy.
According to a Crime Stoppers press release, the burglary was reported at 11:58 a.m., March 6 — a Sunday — at the Susitna Professional Pharmacy on Bogard Road.
The burglar entered the pharmacy through the roof, triggering motion detectors in the building, which in turn tripped the alarm. Security camera videos show the suspect is a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium built.
“The suspect … escaped by kicking out a window and fleeing into the Williwaw subdivision,” according to the Crime Stoppers statement.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 745-3333 or submit a tip online at matsu-crimestoppers.org. Tipsters can remain anonymous and receive up to $1,000 if their information leads to an arrest.
