From the blotter: Boat hits kids in inner tube

BIG LAKE — A man whose boat hit an inner tube carrying two children was jailed for DUI Saturday.

Alaska State Troopers report in a press release that Ricardo Y. Martinez, 47, was boating on Big Lake shortly after 10:30 p.m. when a second boat, piloted by Robrert G. Felthauser, 31, of Anchorage, pulled in front of him.

Martinez tried to avoid hitting the other boat, Troopers report, but didn’t manage to miss the inner tube, which was carrying a 14-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy.

Troopers say the kids were wearing life vests and that they were treated for minor injuries at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Martinez was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on DUI and refusing a chemical test charges with bail set at $1,000. Jail records Monday morning showed he’d since bailed out.

Troopers suspicious of camper fire

WASILLA — A fire in a tow-behind camper on Parks Highway near Stanley Road is being labeled suspicious.

Alaska State Troopers said in a press release that they were called to the blaze at 9:18 a.m. on Saturday. The camper, the report says, was not occupied at the time and was destroyed in the fire.

“Witnesses observed a dark gray or black smaller car speeding away from the camper shortly before they heard a muffled bang and saw smoke,” troopers report.

Man charged

with abuse for

alleged touching

WASILLA — A 47-year-old man was arrested Friday, charged with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Ricky L. Roberts, 47, of Wasilla, allegedly touched a 17-year-old girl inappropriately, Alaska State Troopers said in a press release.

He was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial facility, charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and one count of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Masked men rob

residents in home

BUTTE — A disturbance reported early Sunday morning has troopers looking for two people who walked into a home and demanded money.

In a press release, Alaska State Troopers report they were called to the home at 7:10 a.m. They say two people entered through an unlocked door and yelled for one of the residents to give them his money.

“Both individuals reportedly had their faces covered and fled the residence as one of the occupants called 911,” troopers report.
