FROM THE BLOTTER: Fight leads to shot in the gut

PALMER — Alaska State Troopers say a fight at a home south of town led to one man getting shot in the abdomen.

According to a trooper press statement, the incident was reported shortly after midnight Wednesday morning on Nissen Drive, which is off of the south leg of Outer Springer Loop on the Parks Highway end.

“Two adult males were involved in a physical altercation at the residence after consuming alcohol and marijuana,” the press release states. “During the altercation, one of the men produced a small-caliber pistol and fired a single shot in an apparent attempt to stop the assault.”

A woman who witnessed the whole thing drove him to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center where, as of Wednesday morning, his condition was stable, troopers report.

Troopers are withholding all of the names of everyone involved because criminal charges haven’t been filed. Trooper detectives are investigating.

The Palmer District Attorney’s Office was consulted, troopers said, and decided not to request any arrests just yet.

98 marijuana plants seized

MEADOW LAKES — Alaska State Troopers say a search of a home on Bluebird Drive yielded just under 100 marijuana plants and a pound of pot.

According to a trooper press statement, the home was searched at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday. The pot, the plants and related growing equipment were seized.

Troopers don’t identify their suspect, but say they have one and that charges are being sent to the district attorney.

Bluebird Drive is in the neighborhoods near Meadow Lakes Loop.
