SUTTON — Alaska State Troopers say what started out as a gun theft ended up with shots fired and a man in jail for assaulting a police officer.
According to a trooper press statement, at 12:03 a.m. on Saturday, William Palmer, 62, of Sutton, called to report a gun theft.
Troopers say that while dispatchers had Palmer on the line, they heard shots.
Palmer “had struggled with his girlfriend over possession of a firearm and it negligently discharged,” according to the press release.
When troopers arrived, according to the press release, Palmer pointed his gun at six of them and failed to give up another gun he had on him. One of the troopers sustained minor injuries subduing Palmer.
Palmer was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility charged with third-degree domestic violence assault, six counts of third-degree assaulting a police officer, one count of fourth-degree assaulting a police officer and two counts of fourth-degree weapons misconduct.
Troopers say he was jailed without bail. Jail records Monday morning showed he was still incarcerated.

BUTTE — Troopers say a person got out of a moving car on the Old Glenn Highway to avoid domestic abuse.
According to a trooper press statement, officers were called to Mile 10.5 of the Old Glenn at 5:10 p.m. Friday.
There, they found that Brian E. Kuhr, 57, of Palmer, was southbound driving a green 1998 Ford Escort with two family members onboard.
“While in the vehicle, Kuhr assaulted a family member, who then exited the vehicle while it was in motion,” troopers report.
Kuhr was arrested on two counts of domestic violence assault, one of reckless endangerment and one of reckless driving. He was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility with no bail set. Jail records Monday morning showed he was still incarcerated.

PALMER — It probably wasn’t too hard to spot burglary suspect Brian Jones — he was walking down the highway carrying a computer screen.
Alaska State Troopers say at 6:44 a.m. Sunday a caller reported seeing “suspicious male carrying a computer screen” at Mile 37 of the Glenn Highway.
On scene, troopers identified the man as Jones, 20, of Palmer. They also found out Jones had broken into a building at Granite Construction about a mile farther up the road and taken the screen.
Jones was charged with burglary, trespassing, theft and underage drinking.
