FROM THE BLOTTER: No good deed goes unpunished

PALMER — A passenger who drove a woman to the hospital after she wrecked her car Wednesday apparently did so with a revoked license.

According to an Alaska State Trooper press statement, at 2:16 a.m. troopers went to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center to investigate a car crash.

The crash had happened earlier on the Glenn Highway near the Old Glenn Highway off-ramp. Troopers say Brittany Kunz, 19, of Wasilla, was northbound driving a 1991 Ford Ranger when she lost control and hit the guardrail, sustaining $2,000 damage.

Troopers say everyone inside the pickup was wearing seatbelts but Kunz was injured. They say Carl Leedom, 22, of Wasilla, took over driving and brought her to the hospital.

They also say Leedom’s license was revoked and he was violating the conditions of his release from jail. He was arrested and jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on violating release conditions and driving on a revoked license charges. Jail records Friday afternoon showed he was still there.

Thieves leave a mess

TALKEETNA — A home full of heating oil was the result of a burglary on Petersville Road troopers investigated Wednesday.

Troopers were called to the home at 12:44 p.m. where they found someone had entered through the back door and made off with a Toyostove.

Troopers say the thieves didn’t shut off the fuel first and the tank emptied into the home.

Teen crashes into trooper

WASILLA — A trooper patrol car got the worst of an accident on Seldon Road Thursday.

According to a press release, trooper Rick Sawyer, 25, of Big Lake, was westbound on Seldon coming up on Anoka Road around 5 p.m. The vehicle in front of him was turning right.

At the same time, a Wasilla 17-year-old was trying to turn left onto Seldon from Anoka driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Troopers say that as the vehicle in front of the trooper made its turn, the Tahoe pulled onto Seldon and Sawyer smashed into it driving about 30 miles per hour.

Damage to the Tahoe was estimated at $6,000. Damage to the patrol car was estimated at $10,000. Trooper Sawyer had minor injuries. The teen was cited for not yielding.
