PALMER — Alaska State Troopers say one of their own hit a moose on Sunday.
According to a press statement, Trooper Timothy Smith, 28, was eastbound driving a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car when the moose stepped into the road near Mile 6 of Palmer-Fishhook Road.
Troopers say Smith was unable to avoid the animal. They say he was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt in the crash. Damage to the patrol car is estimated at $2,000.
PALMER — Alaska State Troopers arrested a man in a stolen pickup Saturday with mis-matched license plates, neither of which was registered to the 1998 Ford.
According to a trooper press statement, the stopped happened at 1:05 a.m. just outside of Palmer, at mile 32 Glenn Highway. The driver, Jeffery G. Robinson, 28, of Palmer, was allegedly speeding.
Troopers say the pickup had been reported stolen from Anchorage in July 2009. Robinson was charged with theft by receiving, driving on a revoked license and misuse of license plates. He was jailed on $2,000 bail at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. Jail records Monday afternoon showed he’d since been transferred to a jail in Anchorage.
PALMER — A man jailed for assault Sunday is alleged to have used a pair of non-traditional weapons in the attack — a chain and a pipe.
According to a trooper press statement, the assault was reported at 3:47 p.m. on Jewel Street.
Alexandre Issoupov, 37, of Palmer, was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility for domestic violence assault with no bail set pending arraignment.
Jail records Monday afternoon showed he was still incarcerated.
WASILLA — A man standing in the middle of the road was jailed last week on charges of obstructing highways.
According to a trooper press statement, Matthew A. Charles, 28, of Wasilla, was reported to be drunk and “tampering with a stop sign” at 6:12 p.m. May 25 at the intersection of Bogard and Seldon roads.
When troopers arrived, according to the report, “Charles was standing in the middle of the intersection, impeding traffic from all directions.”
Charles was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $500 bail with the condition that he not be released until sober. Jail records Monday afternoon showed he was still incarcerated.
WASILLA — Troopers reported Thursday that they’d taken down a marijuana growing operation consisting of 84 plants.
According to a trooper press statement, Philip Joseph Greene, 33, was pegged as the marijuana grower and charged with three counts of fourth-degree drug misconduct. He was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $10,000 bail.
The trooper report does not contain a date on which the grow was seized. The criminal case against Greene was opened on Friday, according to court records.
