BUTTE — Alaska State Troopers say a drunken driver led them on a high-speed chase Sunday up the Old Glenn Highway.
According to a trooper press statement, at 2:24 p.m., a resident called in a gray 1991 Nissan Maxima on suspicion of drunken driving at Old Glenn Highway and McKechnie Loop. When troopers found the car, they spotted it making a moving violation.
Troopers say they pulled over the car, but the driver gave them a fake name, then fled when asked to step out of the car.
“A vehicle pursuit ensued and the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Carmen Nardini, 37, of Palmer, exceeded speeds of 100 mph, driving in the wrong lane of travel and passing vehicles in a no passing zone,” troopers report.
Eventually the chase ended when Nardini slid through a corner and came to rest facing north in the southbound lane.
Troopers say Nardini was driving drunk and had two previous drunken driving convictions in the past six months, making this one a felony. She was also charged with providing false information, eluding arrest, driving on a revoked license and violating a limited license.
She was booked at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $1,500 bail. Jail records late Monday afternoon that she was still there. Before she can be released she will need to find a third party to watch over her.
Motorhome driver damages car wash
PALMER — Police are looking for a Coachman motorhome that, if it wasn’t banged up before Saturday, probably is now.
According to a Palmer Police Department press statement, on March 20 police were informed that someone drove the motorhome to Grime Stoppers Carwash.
The motorhome “caused approximately $10,000.00 damage to the wash bay,” police report. And the driver didn’t let anyone know he’d done it.
Anyone with information can call the Palmer Police Department at 745-4811.
