PALMER-- The Greater Palmer of Chamber has a new president-elect, and she's ready to bring her talents to the board of directors. Kristy Bernier, the advertising team manager at the Frontiersman, was elected to reside as next year's president after being elected to the board of directors on March 11.
"It happened when I wasn't looking," joked Bernier.
Bernier, who also sits on the chamber's special events committee and has designed several of the Colony Days and Colony Christmas logos, says that she is excited to bring her creative spirit to the board.
"I love all the creative projects that I get to work on," Bernier said.
The president-elect would usually have a year before stepping into the shoes of the president of the chamber, however, Bernier has had to take over a few presidential duties somewhat earlier, presiding over Wednesday's luncheon meeting. Current chamber president Shawn Osborne of Matanuska Electric Association is currently on vacation.
"I was a little nervous. Mostly because I knew everybody," said Bernier, who has lived in Palmer for most of her life.
Bernier said that when she officially steps into the president's shoes next March, her vision is to help "the chamber to become more of a resource for local businesses and the community."
"We are here for the local businesses," Bernier said.
