The new managing editor of the Frontiersman is no stranger to Alaska. Frank Ameduri lived in the Chugiak area from 1986 until 1990 while stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base. He said he's been looking for a way to get back ever since.
"Alaska was the first choice on my dream sheet -- a list of desired assignments -- and my dream came true. I had high expectations for what I'd find when I arrived here, and Alaska and the people here exceeded those expectations in every way. I've wanted to come back ever since," Ameduri said.
Since leaving Alaska in 1990, Ameduri has spent time in New York, New Mexico and Colorado. He has worked in the publishing industry as a writer and editor for newspapers and corporate communications teams. Most recently, Ameduri was managing partner of New West Weekly, a community-oriented publication in northwest Colorado. Prior to that he was the managing editor of The Craig Daily Press in Craig, Colo.
"I've always been passionate about the newspaper business, but particularly about the relationship between community newspapers and the readers they serve," Ameduri said. "I believe a good newspaper doesn't only cover the community, but also becomes integrated into that community. It's a two-way relationship, and the best publications are the ones that listen as much as report," he added.
Ameduri said he is committed to continuing what he sees as a great tradition at the Frontiersman, and looks forward to a long relationship with the Valley.
"It's important to me that people use our publication as a conduit for community dialogue," Ameduri said. "I plan to be here for a long time, and I'm completely dedicated to providing the best newspaper possible to ensure that happens."
Ameduri is a product of the University of New Mexico writing program, and has also studied at the State University of New York and Indiana University.
