Seims Theatre Productions and the Triumvirate Theatre is hosting the musical Disney’s "Frozen Jr." at the Glenn Massay Theater this month.
The performance is based on the 2018 Broadway Musical and incorporates many of the movie’s original songs, plus a few more unique to the production. The cast and crew this year includes around 120 members ages 6-18 from around the Valley.
“I think it's going to be a good show,” Director AJ Seims said. “The kids have worked really hard and they’re having a lot of fun with it.”
Rehearsals started in October with a few setbacks due to weather and sickness, according to Seims. He said that there was so much interest in the play that he had to turn people away during auditions.
Costumes for the show were designed and created by Tiffany Mann, who spent countless hours making them.
There will be performances for students at the Glenn Massay Theater next Wednesday and Thursday. Showings will be open to the public starting on Friday Jan. 24.
Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at https://glennmassaytheater.com/ There will be shows on Jan. 24, 25 and 31 at 7 p.m. There will be a 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. showing on Feb. 1. There is a 7 p.m. showing on Feb. 7 and a 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. showing on Feb. 8.
These types of experiences are important for kids to look back on all of their lives, Seims said. He said it is also a great opportunity for the community to support Valley youth and the performing arts.
“I think it’s great for everybody,” Seims said. “Not only is it great entertainment and brings a smile to people’s faces, it’s something that I think is needed to give kids opportunities to express themselves. To be part of a group, part of a team, part of a family.”
Seims has directed one or two shows per year for the last nine years under Seims Theatre Productions and Triumvirate Theatre. The Triumvirate Theater is based out of Kenai and is a nonprofit under the Alaska Children’s Institute for the Performing Arts.
Seims said that it’s a privilege to direct these productions and create each show from the ground up.
“I really enjoy it,” Seims said. “ I enjoy working with people and trying to get the most out of them to help bring a show to life.”
