Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

MAT-SU — The Fortitude Fun Run for students in grades kindergarten through 12 begins at 5 p.m., Sept. 4. Proceeds will be donated to the Shelley Rogers AK USA Donation account to benefit the mother of a Wasilla High School athlete who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic lung/diaphragm cancer.
Race registration begins at 4 p.m. at the Experiment Farm, 1509 S. Georgeson Drive, formerly S. Trunk Road. The out-and-back course is approximately 2 miles and will follow trails around the Matanuska Experiment Farm. Follow signs to the parking area at the farm.
Cost to enter prior to Sept. 4 is $8 per individual or $70 per team. Cost to enter on the day of the race is $10 per individual or $80 per team. Make checks payable to: Wasilla High XC Boosters.
Pre-register by sending name, team (school), grade, date of birth, age, gender, address and phone number to Patricia Burroughs at pattie@mtaonline.net.
Runners will pay and sign waivers at the race. Teams registering should send a complete list of athletes in Excel format prior to race day.
Awards will be given to the top 15 elementary runners (boy and girl), top 10 middle school runners (boy and girl) and top 5 high school runners (boy and girl).
Another fundraiser for the family is set for 6 p.m., Sept. 14 at AMVETS Post 11 when the local Women’s Auxiliary will host a dessert auction and spaghetti feed, and rumor has it that there will be boys auctioning labor and some hot guy auctioning a ride on his Harley.
