To the editor:
As a Wasilla senior citizen, I am very concerned about the funding necessary for the Wasilla Area Senior Center to keep operating with a variety of nutritious, balanced meals and transportation provided for seniors. The WASC is not only for the seniors that are able to enjoy a place to exercise and socialize but for those of us who have much difficulty getting out. The staff at the center has been most helpful to me as a disabled/diabetic senior to have a delicious, balanced meal delivered to my home. The personnel at the center have been very accommodating and made sure that I, as well as other seniors in the same situation, have been able to have fresh vegetables and fruit along with a hot meal. Also, they have faithfully provided transportation for us seniors to get to our doctor’s appointments.
I have been very appreciative of their assistance in these areas as it has been very difficult for me to do them for myself. I am saddened by the fact that funding has become so limited that it has affected the variety and quality that everyone enjoys in meals. I understand that now the vans are also unavailable for WASC to transport us to the doctor.
I want to personally commend all of the staff at the Wasilla Area Senior Center, from the office staff, the cooks, and the transportation and delivery people, for their genuine concern for the senior citizens in the Wasilla area.
My appeal is to all who have it in their power to make funding possible, including Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Rep. Keller and Sen. Huggins.
Please help those of us who are seniors now because everyone out there will be one sooner or later and need this valuable assistance program.
