Funding supports great senior center

I would like to thank Gov. (Sarah) Palin for funding $3.2 million to build a new Palmer Senior Center in our community. I arrived in Palmer in 1952 as a young woman and joined the senior citizen center in 1993 after I retired.

I have met many interesting people, staff and clients, and enjoyed my many visits to the Palmer Senior Center. It has many seniors participating in various activities, serves noon meals five days a week and meals on wheels for those unable to come in to eat.

Vans run to take seniors shopping, to doctor visits, and many times has tours to various places. They have daily exercise for those wanting to participate, card games and bingo during the week. I enjoy playing pinochle with other local seniors every Friday evening, and in the fall I volunteer at the health fair helping sign in seniors to get their immunization shots.

The present center has served Palmer’s seniors for many years and I’m thankful we can soon build a new facility to continue serving the many seniors in our growing town. Thank you, Governor Palin, for your support of seniors and for assisting to build a new Palmer Senior Center.
