Hmmmm. Having gotten my rocker all greased up, I’ve been waiting for the bloviating to begin by the candidates running in the Mat-Su Borough election. I’ve observed something that is making me really spleenful. It seems the chambers of commerce for Wasilla and Palmer are only interested in the mayor’s race by not offering up a forum for assembly seat candidate debates.
The District 3 assembly seat is the only contested seat. Because this is a core area district with some serious issues for businesses and residents, I sure would like to see a timely face-to-face debate between the two candidates.
I’ve been told that this may not be possible because one of the candidates who has been doing business in China (and who on numerous occasions over the past couple of years attended assembly meetings only by phone), is again not available to District 3 residents because he is back in China.
I have no objection to somebody making a living, but I am furious about having an absentee landlord superficially representing borough and District 3 issues. Enough of my distress. I sure hope some organization that cares about management of the borough can pull together a real face-to-face debate with the public having the opportunity to ask questions. I would even leave my rocker to be there.
