To the editor:
I would like to thank Anthony Jensen, a teacher at Wasilla High School, for inviting me to be a presenter at this year’s Lead by Example Across the District leadership conference at Colony High School Feb. 21. I had the privilege of working with several high school and middle school students from across the district. I found the students to be not only enthusiastic and knowledgeable, but also caring and in tune with issues that affect them as well as our community as a whole.
These students are burgeoning leaders who will be valuable assets to our community. I asked several of them what their reasons for coming were and all stated that they wanted to make their schools better and to have a say in what goes on in their individual schools. They could have stayed home or in their regular classes, but chose this instead. I feel that speaks well of their character.
This workshop is another fine example of the high quality of students and teachers we have here in the Mat-Su School District. Mr. Jensen and Carly Colligan (Student Advisory Board President) made sure I had all I needed for my presentation and were very helpful in making my first time as a presenter an enjoyable experience.
Thank you again to Mr. Jensen and to the other members of the Student Advisory Board for putting on a successful workshop. I would also like to thank the district for allowing this workshop be put on in Colony High.
