Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Anchorage resident Garry Leon Burlison Sr., 67, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Elmendorf Air Force Base hospital.
A service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Palmer Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Micky D. Boxer officiating. Graveside services will be held at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw, Wash. Pallbearers were Garry Burlison Jr., Hugh Burlison, Dean Burlison, David Burlison, Eric Swan, Nathan Williams and Ron Short III.
Mr. Burlison was born March 20, 1933, in Walker, Minn. He was a veteran of the Korean War and had lived in Palmer since 1993. He was a member of Palmer Church of the Nazarene and was active in volunteer Christian ministry (prayer ministry). He enjoyed halibut fishing, and his family said, "There are no words to express how much we love and miss Garry, our husband, father and grandpa. We thank God for our time spent with such a wonderful man."
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Gary Burlison Jr., Hugh Burlison, Dean Burlison, David Burlison, Nora LaBarge, Alma Short and Annie Swan; brothers, Charles Burlison and Orville Burlison and sister, Lillian Gray. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
