Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Genevieve B. "Gouin" Howard, 78, of Cheboygan, Mich., passed away at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee, Mich., on Oct. 21, 2001. She was born in Cheboygan on Aug. 17, 1923, the daughter of John and Melvina (Cote) Vieau.
Survivors include her children, David (Marty) Gouin of Skanee, Mich., and Linda (Dr. Curt) Menard of Wasilla, and stepson, David (Doreen) Howard of Waukegan, Ill.
She also leaves eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister, Marie Lancewicz; brother, James (Shirley) Viau; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Gouin, in 1970, and by her second husband, Keith Howard, in 2001. She was also preceded by her grandsons, Jacques Pierre Gouin and Dr. Curtis Menard; sisters, Edith Krawchuk and Leona Donner; and brothers, Peter Viau and Ed Vieau.
Visitation was held at the Christian Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 2 - 4 p.m., and from 7 - 9 p.m. There was a rosary recited at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated today, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary/St. Charles Church. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Alzheimer's foundation or to U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
