'Genre-busting' musician brings innovative style

PALMER - Erin McKeown will wrap up a weekend of live music at Vagabond Blues this Sunday, one night after Matt Hopper rocks the Palmer coffeehouse on Saturday.

McKeown's music has been described as genre-busting and difficult to describe. From fractured blues to New Orleans horns and piano waltzes, McKeown brings a multi-instrumentalist approach to her innovative style.

The 27-year-old McKeown's songs have been featured on the film "Uptown Girls," MTV's "The Real World," and Showtime's "The Ranch" and "Dawson's Creek."

After two years of touring, McKeown spent the summer of 2004 hard at work writing for her next album. In December 2004, McKeown headed to New Orleans' Piety Street Studio to record with Seattle-based producer Tucker Martine.

The still-untitled album will be released in late spring/early summer 2005.

McKeown takes the stage Sunday, at 3 p.m. Tickets are still on sale at Vagabond Blues for $15. For more information, people may call
