Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident George Vernon Pitcock, 62, died Dec. 1, 2001, at Elmendorf Air Force Base Hospital in Anchorage.
There will be a celebration of life and potluck at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the AMVETS on Wasilla-Fishhook Road in Wasilla.
Mr. Pitcock was born May 29, 1939, in Louisiana, to George and Hassie Pitcock.
He served both in the Army and Navy, and received honorable discharges. He lived in Wasilla for 11 years and operated Motor Kool Radiator Shop for eight years. He had previously lived in the Jacksonville, Ark., area during the late 1950s and early 1960s, and in Colorado in Denver and surrounding areas in the '60s and '70s. He also was a former resident of Texas and Louisiana.
Family and friends said, "Alaska was his lifelong dream, and he lived his dream living in Alaska. He was a man who knew no stranger. He was a fair man, and he loved his family, and his many friends. He would always say, 'Don't worry, everything always works out.' He will be greatly missed."
He was a charter member of AMVETS (Noah Caldwell Chapter) in Wasilla.
He is survived by his three sons, Michael, John and Charles; his sister; two brothers; many relatives and friends; and his beloved Charlotte, his companion of 15 years.
Arrangements are by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory.
