Get back to being an industrious people

To the editor:

I offer this prescription for our country’s health and prosperity to my fellow citizens for modification or expansion.

1. All citizens/elected officials need to restudy their pledges of allegiance/oaths of office and the constitutional materials that define key terms. Likewise, our military personnel need to restudy their oaths of enlistment. We are no longer a constitutional republic guided by public representation but, based on our government’s conduct, a “people-friendly” elected aristocracy. History and current conditions show our political heritage is being defiled.

2. Take Harry S. Truman’s December 1963 advice and restrict the U.S. intelligence community to intelligence gathering and analysis only, and stop its secret, loose cannon troublemaking in U.S. foreign affairs. Covert operations — not just war — are the province of a military that makes respecting constitutionally authorized power over it superior to mere subservience to a commander-in-chief-based chain of command.

3. Repeal the 1913 Federal Reserve act and return to constitutionally mandated gold and silver coinage. Such legal tender can directly back the use of regulated debit cards by the public to permit incremental currency amounts. No more virtual counterfeit currency managed for private profit by financial special interests masquerading as an arm of government.

4. Shift the administration of government security clearances from current executive branch dictatorship to constitutionally orthodox rule of law (ref. Article I, Section 8). This unsupervised aristocracy in the executive branch — that is, controlling the information necessary for all U.S. foreign relations decisions — is a natural anti-Constitution conspiracy by dictionary definition.

5. Survey the world for wanted goods and services (besides military stuff) that America has the resources to manufacture and deliver. Then stamp out a U.S. standard of living funded by borrowed money — government and private — and transition Americans back to being an industrious people.
