Get involved in MEA

To the editor:

A rite of spring for members of the Matanuska Electrical Association is the annual election and meeting. I encourage all co-op members to participate in both. Decisions about energy production and distribution are vital to the positive development of our communities.

Two candidates stand out in this year’s election. Lois Lester, a retired chemistry professor, has served on the MEA board for many years. Her current position as board president shows the respect of her fellow board members. Kit Jones is newer to the community, but has been serving on the board by appointment since October 2008. Besides her experience and love for her adopted state, Kit brings impressive expertise. She is a certified public accountant and was the chief financial officer and co-owner of a multi-million dollar corporation. Both candidates are intelligent and dedicated. They are willing to listen, ask questions, and do the hard work of guiding the cooperative during a critical time.

So, don’t toss that MEA ballot when it comes in the mail. There is one ballot per household, and you need to make sure that the voter is authorized. Be an involved member of your co-op and vote for the experienced, positive and responsive candidates — Lois Lester and Kit Jones.
