Get involved in the borough budget process

Budget season has begun at the Mat-Su Borough. To help residents keep up with the proceedings, the borough has dedicated a section of its website to the budget process. Visit bit.ly/1CnIrdU.

Also, here are some important dates for meetings to attend or to watch for documents online, as the process moves forward:

• April 14: a joint meeting is scheduled between the Mat-Su Borough Assembly and the Mat-Su Borough School District School Board. Borough Manager John Moosey said he expects reduced state education funding to be a big topic of conversation.

• April 21: Moosey releases his budget, which the assembly will use as a starting point.

• April 24: Department presentations wrap up.

• April 30: Moosey gives the assembly an overview of his budget at 10 a.m., followed by budget presentations from various department heads.

• May 4 and 7: The assembly takes testimony from the public.

• May 11, 12 and 13: The assembly debates the budget and could adopt it as early as May 12.
